Hosting-Check | Outgoing Mailserver
How does the hosting check work for “Outgoing Mailserver”?
Outgoing Mailserver are responsible for sending email from the domain. In theory, every IP address can send an email that says that it was sent by a domain. Still, if a random IP does that, the email will probably be rejected by the mail server of the receiver or will end up in a spam folder. To prevent this from happening, the manager of the domain can set an SPF record, which can define IP ranges that are allowed to send emails from the domain. Hosting-Checker parses and processes the SPF record hierarchy and looks up the providers behind the IPs in the IP ranges. Since IP ranges in SPF records are sometimes huge and often belong to only one provider, we currently look up the first, the last and one IP in the middle of the IP range.
